Description of the modules:
The 250-hour TESOL/TEFL certificate program is intended for those who want to obtain a TESOL/TEFL certificate and who have little or no experience in teaching ESL/EFL. This program consists of 3 modules: Grammar; Phonology; Methodology.
Grammar:
This module is intended for those teachers who have experience in conversation lessons but are not confident with their grammar knowledge.
This module consists of 17 chapters, 39 quizzes and a final exam.
Phonology:
This course is intended for those native teachers who want to learn the best way to help their students with accent reduction and intonation. Non-native teachers will benefit from this course since it provides recorded sounds of correct English and they can record their pronunciation and compare it to the master's. This module consists of 13 chapters, quizzes and a final exam.
Methodology:
This module consists of 19 chapters and you will have the opportunity to observe videoed authentic lessons of ESL/EFL adult students, which is essential to grasp the idea of what really happens in a classroom. You will also have to submit 20 assignments to your tutor as well as a final exam. By the end of the course you will have a portfolio including your assignments, observations tasks and lesson plans which will provide you with tangible evidence of your work.
After successful completion of the 250-hour TESOL program, you will receive a Specialized TESOL Cert.(TM) - Certificate in the Theory and Methodology of TESOL awarded by Ontesol.com. You may also be accredited by TESL Canada Standard 2 and/or ACTDEC UK Level 3 if you meet the following requirements.
ACTDEC UK LEVEL 3 requirements:
• Minimum age: 21
• 250-hour TESOL program by an accredited course
• At least 1 year of university or college completed in an English speaking country.
• Non-native speakers must have a TOEFL score of 550 (213 with computer -based exam; 80 with Internet –based exam), UCLES Certificate in Advanced English or IELTS minimum band 6.5. You will be required to mail a copy of the examination score when applying for the course.
• Practicum is not a requirement, but highly recommended for those who lack teaching experience. It can be done anywhere in the world.
TESL CANADA Standard 2 requirements:
• Minimum age: 21
• 250-hour TESOL program by an accredited course
• Student at university or completed university degree from Canada or its equivalency *(1)
• Non-native speakers must have a TOEFL score of 550 (213 with computer -based exam; 80 with Internet –based exam), UCLES Certificate in Advanced English or IELTS minimum band 6.5. You will be required to mail a copy of the examination score when applying for the course.
• 20-hour practicum MUST be done in Canada. (Trainees who have over 1000 hours of teaching experience should contact TESL Canada www.tesl.ca for practicum equivalency)
(1) Students without a university degree can still receive a Specialized TESOL Cert.(TM) - Certificate in the Theory and Methodology of TESOL awarded by Ontesol.com upon completion of the 250-hour TESOL program and be accredited by ACTDEC UK Level 3, but they are informed that TESL Canada Professional Certificate Standard requires an undergraduate degree.
