Course Description
5-week (130-hour) Trinity College CertTESOL Certificate Course:
Our course consists of 130 hours of Theory Input, Teaching Practice and Feedback over 5 weeks with full support from fully qualified and experienced teacher trainers. You will benefit from a task based approach designed to allow trainees to bring their experiences and individual learning strategies to the learning process. Lectures are kept to a minimum with tutors facilitating learners to achieve course goals.
Course Content:
Teaching Skills:
You will be introduced to the most up-to-date language teaching methodologies and approaches as well as an overview of the historical development of these approaches. Further inputs will present good examples of lesson planning, staging and classroom management.
Language Awareness:
The terminology and definitions that define grammar, vocabulary and phonology will be introduced and studied in relation to classroom materials and practical application so the trainees will begin to 'live' the subject. Trainees become confident in describing the features of their own language and in turn help their own learners.
Learning an Unknown Language:
This experience is designed to let you know have it feels to receive instruction without recourse to any common language. Trainees will benefit from receiving a short beginner language course in a language unknown to them. Languages available include Russian, Polish, Chinese and Swedish.
Teaching Practice:
We place great importance on the practical application of current language teaching methodologies in the classroom. Over 6 hours of teaching trainees will experience at least two levels of learners, prepare and implement lessons, and respond to Feedback. Trainees will begin teaching practice on the third day and will benefit from observations of experienced teachers and individual tutorials.
Typical day
Trainees will start the day by exchanging ideas and experiences with their teachers and co-trainees over coffee followed theory and practical Inputs in the classroom. This will be followed by time for assignment writing or Teaching Practice for each trainee.
Entry requirements:
Candidates require educational qualifications suitable for entry to university as an absolute minimum. Candidates for whom English is not their native language will require an IELTS score of 7 or equivalent.
Accommodation Options
The school is able to organise self catering or host family accommodation for the 5 week period along with airport pickup, orientation walk and basic German lessons.
