Course Description
This is Singapore’s only course designed specifically for non native English speakers. It combines modelled, intensive General English lessons and a comprehensive and hands on look at communicative methodology in TESOL.
Schools appreciate the quality of graduates from this course. It provides them with the most hands on TESOL course by using current ESL texts. Graduates have the confidence to step into any class and teach from any text. Trainees will be guided in the style of teaching preferred by language schools worldwide.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
* 6 hours of teaching practice (lesson planning, classroom teaching and self-evaluation)
* 6 written assignments
* professional development.
To successfully complete this course you must show competence in a range of criteria which you are given at the start of the course. There is no final examination.
COURSE CONTENT:

There are 16 units of competency:
1. Apply knowledge of different learner styles and motivation to teaching.
2. Apply knowledge of learner cultural and linguistic backgrounds to teaching.
3. Apply knowledge of similarities and difference between English and LOTE (languages other than English).
4. Use basic grammatical concepts and terminology.
5. Use basic lexical and phonological terminology.
6. Prepare language lessons using reference material.
7. Plan and evaluate lessons.
8. Evaluate TESOL teaching materials for classroom use.
9. Manage a classroom.
10. Manage the teaching and learning environment.
11. Develop teacher professionalism.
12. Teach speaking skills.
13. Teaching writing skills.
14. Teach reading skills.
15. Teach listening skills.
16. Develop learners’ language knowledge.
- 90 hours of general English and methodology input focusing on a text that is currently popular with many language schools around the world – Cutting Edge by Longman Pearson Publishing.
- 90 hours of teaching practice, lesson planning, observing lessons and evaluation of lessons of self and peers. This includes the 6 hours of teaching practice where you will prepare and teach real English language students.
