What is PTLLS and the PTLLS extension?
PTLLS (Preparation for Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector) is designed to contribute towards the skills, knowledge and understanding for anyone wishing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (LLUK). The Cambridge ESOL PTLLS is now embedded in the 120-hour CELTA course however for anyone who did a CELTA course prior to September 2008, there is now a PTLLS one-day extension available. It has been endorsed by the Standards Verification UK and is accredited by QCA.


About the course
The day will involve 4 sessions as follows:
1. an assessment of your own numeracy and ICT skills and development needs
2. a session on the teaching of numeracy incorporating a video observation of a numeracy session with an ESOL class
3. a session on the use of and teaching of IT
4. a session on policy - covering equal ops, health & safety, disability and discrimination legislation, codes of practice, child protection and learner contracts.



How is the course assessed?
In order to pass the course you will need to complete the following:
• an Initial Assessment of Functional Skills (ICT and numeracy)
• one short assignment on how teachers can support learners’ numeracy and IT skills in the context of their language learning
• one short assignment on the implications of certain policies and procedures for teachers inside and outside the classroom
• one video observation of a numeracy or science class
All the assessment will take place on the day of the course.

Candidates for the course must have:
• the Cambridge CELTA, the Trinity CertTESOL or equivalent.

This school is one of the longest established providers of English Language teacher training courses. They have a large catchment area, giving you the rewarding experience of teaching multi-lingual classes, with your students coming from many different countries and backgrounds. The courses take place in a well-equipped and newly decorated training suite. There is a two floor library that is extremely well stocked with additional shelves available only to CELTA trainees. The library also has trained staff on hand to help you use the computers. All students at this school have free internet access.
