Course Description
This TEFL Certificate course provides teacher training for those who want to live and work in countries where English is a foreign language and students have little daily exposure to it. With this TEFL certificate, you will have access to quality jobs with well-respected employers throughout the world.
The course is five weeks' long, 120-hour course and offers university-standard instruction to native (or near-native) speakers of English. Trainees will be provided with an understanding of how our language works and how to effectively teach it to speakers of other languages.
The course is broken down into two sections, including 75 hours of classroom instruction and 45 hours of practicum.
The input sessions will focus on how to teach, and there will be sessions on aquiring language skills, approaches to teaching, the teaching methods and techniques. There will also be sessions on phonology, linguistics and grammar, all of which is designed to make you an effective language teacher.
In the practicum, you have the opportunity to put theory into action. During the first week, we study presentation skills, learning styles and lesson planning. You’ll have the opportunity to teach for at least four classroom hours to English language students from Chiang Mai University. This provides you with invaluable experience and allows you to develop your personal teaching style in a relaxed environment. When not conducting the practicum lesson yourself, you’ll be assisting other student teachers during their lessons and working individually with Thai students.
The course is accredited by the University of Chiang Mai, which was the first university of Thailand to be founded outside of Bangkok.
Entrance Requirements
No previous teaching experience is required to do the course. All candidates must have a good level of language awareness, and you will be asked to complete an application and a hand-written piece describing your education, relevant work experiences and your reasons for doing the course. There will also be an interview with a course tutor or the programme director.
Course Requirements
A minimum of attendance of 85% is required in both the classroom and practicum portions of the course. In addition, you must achieve a minimum grade of 70% on the final assessed practice teaching.
