Course Description

About The Diploma Course

Special Features

The DIP TESOL is an advanced practical teaching qualification. If you have a certificate qualification, 2 years' EFL experience (980 hours classroom teaching), and want to be a great teacher, it's the course for you.

You are guaranteed to pass the exam. When you join this programme, you’ll be working in one of the UK’s most innovative schools, famous for creative methods that promote effective learning without stress. It’s a hands-on system: you’ll be fully integrated into the life of a small, hard-working language school and training college. One benefit of this is that you’ll have plenty of opportunities to put new ideas into practice.

The school has many years' experience of running this top-level qualification, and many years of success in helping our Dip TESOL candidates get great results in the exam. That’s why they can now GUARANTEE you will pass the Diploma exam when you take our course.
What’s more, we are sure that you will extend your repertoire of practical classroom activities, too - or your money back!

The Aims of Our Diploma Course

Doing a Diploma is a great investment in your future career. With our course, you'll develop your professional knowledge and expertise so you can teach with confidence in any situation. And when you pass, you’ll have the pick of jobs internationally (and we’ll also give you a session full of great tips that will ensure your CV goes straight to the top of the pile).
Every day you’ll build on your existing skills and increase your understanding of the key factors affecting language learning and teaching.

- You'll also be familiar with a huge range of techniques for ensuring your classes promote effective learning time after time.

- You'll know the best publications on the market, and how to use them to get the most from your students.

- You'll be able to adapt your teaching style to suit your learners.

- On top of that, you'll be a great colleague - able to help novice teachers with ideas, and ready to give guidance on a range of topics relating to
classroom skills.

What's more, you'll find that you prepare your classes more effectively and in less time - with practice!

Practical Details

Workload:
There is a considerable amount of reading to do - but we make this more manageable by timetabling guided reading sessions on a regular basis, and by providing you with our detailed list of activities and books to read for each aspect of the programme.
The workload is heavy rewarding and thought-provoking. Do not take it on unless you feel confident that you can manage!

Our booklet:

'Top Tips for Preparing Dips' will give you dozens of practical tips to help you manage the workload before and during the course.

Group size:

To ensure the best combination of rapid progress and personal attention, groups tend to have a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 12 participants. We reserve the right to cancel courses with insufficient bookings.

Format:

Each programme involves a combination of seminars, mini-lectures, workshops, presentations, and project work. In addition, there will be observation and teaching practice sessions, and both written and practical assignments.
Full-time courses include 2 reading weeks where input is reduced to a minimum to allow you to catch up with coursework and to focus on your teaching.

How to apply (and guarantee to pass):

1. Complete and return the application form and pre-interview tasks

2. Attend our interview, which includes a 30-minute observed teaching session (we will send you a brief for the lesson in advance) and
some live writing. If these are fine (and they normally are), we will be able to guarantee you a pass.

3. Once on the course, you must do the pre-course reading, attend at least 95% of the in-put sessions and complete the assignments
by the deadlines agreed.

Help for Jobs

It goes without saying that we are very happy to provide you with support during the course to help you prepare for life post-Cert!

To focus on your future EFL career, there is a 'Careers and Advice' session where we look at cover letters, CVs, important things when applying for a job, what to be careful about before accepting, plus a chance to ask an experienced tutor any questions you have relating to careers and finding work. You will also be given a contact details sheet summarising some of the main EFL organisations and their contact details. These schools will have jobs advertising year-round, so they are useful for whichever course you choose to do.

Once the course has finished we are very happy to act as referees for you for future employers and we can give you advice by email should you have any questions relating to potential employment. It is worth noting that it is not uncommon (especially for courses leading up to the summer period) for trainees to get their first work experience with us at our summer schools. Though there is no guarantee that you will get work, we are keen to recruit successful in-house trainees for summer.
