Course Description
A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS ARE YOUNG LEARNERS. HAS YOUR QUALIFICATION PREPARED FOR THIS? WILL YOUR PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYER HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOUR ABILITY IN THE YOUNG LEARNER CLASSROOM?
This is the only two week Trinity College London Young Learner Extension Course in the UK. The course will develop participants’ awareness and application of approaches, methods and strategies for teaching Young Learners, aged 8-17. It will equip you with the skills for teaching Young Learners, and reassure employers that you are able to effectively teach and deal with children in the classroom.
EFL posts in the UK and abroad increasingly require you to work with young learners. Abroad, Spain is one of the most competitive countries in terms of finding work, and one with a flourishing and expanding YL market. In the UK, the relatively lucrative summer residential programmes on offer in the UK recruit heavily in April and May for the following summer. If you are considering teaching in Asia you can be certain that you will spend at least 40% of your time teaching younger learners.
The YL extension course will put you closer to being guaranteed work. It will reassure employers that you have been trained to work effectively in this environment. More importantly, you will feel more confident working with young learners, and will be equipped with practical strategies and methodologies to deal with children in the classroom.
