Course Description
The Cactus TEFL weekend course is a fast and cost-effective introduction to the world of Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Your qualified and experienced trainer will lead you through the basics of teaching EFL. Within only a few hours you’ll have the chance to try some of the key techniques out on your peers and receive personalised feedback on your teaching style. Because Cactus is one of the market leaders in the field of TEFL courses and recruitment, we also provide practical advice on developing your skills, applying for a job and what to expect if you teach abroad. The specially written course materials include tasks for the two day course but are also packed with further tips such as practical ideas for classroom lessons that you can use with students long after the course.

Here’s an outline of the typical two-day course, though please note that we regularly update the content to reflect changes and good practice in TEFL:

Day One
• Introductions and activities to use on the first day with your students
• Find out how you teach a language without using translation
• Techniques for teaching vocabulary
• How to plan a lesson
• Teach a mini-lesson!
• Get feedback on your first attempt from your tutor and peers
• Ways of teaching grammar
• Managing your class including how to set up activities and using pairwork/groupwork
• How to teach speaking and techniques such as role play and leading discussion

Day Two
• Knowing the level of your students and their needs
• Introduction to different types of text books and resources including the Internet
• Teaching listening and reading
• Plan and teach a longer lesson
• Making writing fun in class
• Dealing with the unexpected
• Advice on what to do next including taking further courses and applying for jobs in different countries.

How can Cactus help me after the course?

School Details - Cactus TEFL

Cactus TEFL is a leading light in the TEFL industry, helping thousands of people each year to prepare a gap year or a career in TEFL. Cactus TEFL can advise from your first thoughts about taking time out, through to advanced professional qualifications in teaching English as a Foreign Language.

Cactus TEFL is home to three of its own courses. The Cactus TEFL Weekend Course and the Cactus TEFL ELA Course - The English Language Awareness Course - were developed as a direct response to the needs of applicants who have had no formal EFL teacher training or training in the grammar of the English language. The two courses are designed to complement each other and the latter is also perfect as preparation for a 4 week TEFL course. The third Cactus own-brand course is the IC TESOL, the Introductory Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
