Course Description
The course involves a total of 130 hours tuition and comprises six main elements: Foreign Language Experience, Language Awareness, Student Profile, Teaching Techniques, Tecahing Practice and Observation, and a Materials Project.
Foreign Language Experience
Trainees are given basic instruction in a foreign language in order to increase their awareness of being a student. They are also required to write a daily journal during the period of instruction. The focus is opon critical reflection on the learning experience and useful insights for teaching.
Language Awareness
This includes 10 hours of grammar and 10 hours of phonology tuition to cover the basic terminology and concepts relating to each.
Student Profile
Trainees will spend a total of 14 hours working to build a rapport with a student and to create a profule of the student as an individual. This will include analysing errors and teaching a focused, personalised lesson.
Teaching Techniques
This consists of 30 hours of input sessions designed to introduce concepts of learning and to demonstrate and practice basic teaching methods.
Teaching Practice and Observation
All trainees will be required to complete 3 hours of observing experienced teachers, 1 hour of observing a prefesionally developed video, 20 hours of peer observation, 1 hour of shared teaching practice and 6 hours of individual teaching practice.
Materials Project
A total of 10 hours is assigned to this part of the course. It involves the development of two sets of materials used during teaching practice. Trainees must adapt these from commercial sources, or develop original materials and then complete a presentation about them to the trainers.

This city-centre school is located next to the University campus. It provides easy access to a lively nightlife scene, and a wide range of restaurants, shops, sports and other leisure activities.
The railway station, bus station, city centre, harbour and Barbican are also all within easy reach.
