Teacher Training School
"I've had a brilliant time over here and I've done really well on the course as well. By the way, all the trainees who came through Cactus (Nicola, Daniel and Gemma) mentioned you as being very helpful. I just couldn't agree more!!! The course is now over and we are free!!! Or maybe not! Now it's time to look for a job!" Hugo
Course Description
How will this package benefit me?
You will meet the foreign students in the classes you observe and see experienced teachers in action. This will help to make your teaching practice during CELTA less intimidating and you will probably find it easier to anticipate and deal with students' language problems during teaching practice. You will benefit from seeing your Arabic teachers in action whilst improving your own Arabic language skills.
Dates for the course
The Arabic course has a duration of 16 hours. It can be taken over one or two weeks, in international groups with other language learners. Please note that dates below refer to the 5 week option only. If you wish to do your course over two weeks please just click the date for the 1 week add-on option and specify on your application form.
In a nutshell
If you work hard and dedicate the time, you will learn a lot and pass the Cambridge CELTA course. You will become a confident English teacher, ready to embark on an interesting career. You will find it much easier to deal with the initial culture shock with some basic Arabic under your belt and you will feel truelly immersed when you meet the locals during teaching practice. The experience of learning a challenging language will benefit you enormously throughout your teaching career. It will also prove to be a huge assett when taking your first steps on the career ladder.
For many people, doing the Cambridge CELTA has been a turning point in their lives.
This is a highly practical course providing initial training in English language teaching to adults. It aims at laying a firm foundation on which you can build your experience.
Through a series of seminars and practical demonstrations you will develop your practical awareness of
- Learners
- Language
- Materials
And practical ability in
- Classroom management
- Lesson planning
- Introduction and practice of new language
- Developing the skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing
Teacher practice is a major component of the course and takes place every afternoon on intensive courses, and on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in two, 3-week blocks on part-time courses. The programme is closely related to the work done during the seminar sessions. You will work as part of a small group of five or six trainee teachers to obtain practical experience in working with classes at different levels. Liaising with each other, you will produce a series of cohesive lessons. After each teaching practice session, the lessons are discussed with the tutor.
Observation of practising teachers is an intrinsic part of the course and takes place outside class hours, as does guided observation of videoed lessons and preparation for teaching practice.
Assessment is continuous. Teaching skills are of the greatest importance but all aspects of your performance and work carried out on the course are taken into consideration. During your course you will be kept informed of your progress by written commentary on your teaching practice and by tutorial (This may be formulated in terms of passing or failing)
Our Teacher Training issues a graded certificate-report. The grades are Pass A, Pass B, Pass or No Certificate Awarded. Candidates who successfully complete the course are also awarded the Cambridge/RSA Certificate.
