This Hastings centre is in the unique position of being able to run the DELTA course from their year round school in Hastings. Candidates would be taught by their highly qualified DELTA trainers. Successful candidates will be guaranteed a Director Of Studies summer post at one of 25 summer schools located throughout the UK. Ideally, the organisation would like to keep them on for a second summer and would like some kind of commitment from the candidates.
Being a DOS in a summer school will not only enhance the candidate's CV, but can also be a launch pad into a range of different areas within EFL, such as: Teacher training, materials development, publishing, operations management etc.
About the DELTA course
Upgrade your teaching qualifications. Realise your teaching potential. Take the Cambridge DELTA programme, the Cambridge Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA), the in-service teacher training qualification.
Link pedagogic principles to pedagogic practice. Deepen your understanding of English grammar, vocabulary, and discourse. Heighten your confidence and classroom skills and develop and broaden your knowledge of resources and materials. Examine your current practice and beliefs and explore new areas and issues in language study, in teaching and learning, and in language acquisition.
Programme content
Input sessions based upon specifications for DELTA produced by the University of Cambridge covering: language awareness, the background to teaching and learning, resources and materials, working in the classroom, evaluation, monitoring and assessment, professional development
Assessment
Candidates are assessed internally and externally. There are 3 components of assessment:
Course work: Five Practice Teaching Assignments involving reading and research, essay writing, lesson planning, teaching and written self-evaluation and two written assignments.
Extended assignment: An externally assessed case study.
A written exam (in December or in June).
Application procedure
Before being enrolled, all applicants need to complete an application form, successfully complete an application 'test ', and attend an interview (if a personal interview is impractical this can be done by phone).
Course Features
Education: The Diploma is a post-graduate qualification and candidates are usually university graduates or qualified teachers. The requirement is that candidates should have a standard of education equivalent to that required for entry into higher education and they will normally have undertaken some formal course of practical training at pre-service or in-service level.
Experience: Applicants should have a minimum of two years (1200 hours) teaching experience within the last five years. They will normally have a range of experience involving teaching different levels and in different contexts
English: Applicants must have an awareness of language and a competence in English, both written and spoken, that enables them to follow the course and complete all assessed elements
Accommodation Options
Homestay accommodation in a single room on a half-board basis can be arranged for you at a price of £776 for eight weeks. This includes £40 accommodation booking fee.
School Details - Hastings
Embassy CES Hastings is situated in Gensing Manor, a beautiful newly refurbished Victorian mansion set in its own gardens in a pleasant residential part of town.
The seafront, which is the heart of Hastings in the summer months, is only a short walk away. It is also conveniently placed close to the town centre and accommodation is available nearby with friendly host families.
When full, our Hastings school has a capacity of 200 students. The minimum age is 16.
