- Supervised Teaching Practice
- Lesson Preparation and Planning
- Feedback on Teaching Practice
- Observation of Experienced Teachers
There is teaching practice every day in classes with French and German adult learners. Six hours of teaching practice are assessed, and there are four written assignments on: adult learners and learning contexts; an aspect of the language system of English; an aspect of language skills; and reflection on classroom teaching.
The course is divided into the following five subject areas:
- Learners and teachers and the teaching and learning context
- Language analysis and awareness
- Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing
- Planning and resources
- Developing teaching skills and professionalism
The Cambridge CELTA is a very rigorous, highly respected qualification which gives you the confidence to be able to go out afterwards and teach real classes anywhere in the world.
The school has arranged for candidates to stay with French families in home-stay accommodation for as little as 400 Euros for the month. Alternatively, you can stay in self-contained accommodation in a beautifully restored Alsatian farmhouse "La Maison Bleue" for 460 Euros for the month. During the summer period, it is also possible to find flats in the centre of Strasbourg for those candidates who require them.
School Details - Strasbourg
The training centre is a very modern building just 1 km from the city centre. Equipped with comfortable teaching rooms, a media centre, library and cafeteria, it provides the perfect environment for TEFL study.
Strasbourg is the destination for exploring the political and economic issues which influence language learning in Europe today. On the frontier between France and Germany, home to the magnificant new European Parliament building, the language unit of the Council of Europe, and the European Court of Human Rights, Strasbourg is the city where Eurepean policies are made.
It is also a vibrant, multicultural city which has long struggled with the conflicting interests of Europe's two major languages, French and German. As English becomes more and more the language of commerce and international communication in Europe, there is nowhere more interesting than Strasbourg to watch this happen.
Strasbourg is also the capital of the Alsace region of France. Beautiful forests, mountains and vineyards are its characteristic features. The quality of life here is very good, and during your stay in Strasbourg you will be able to sample those uniquely French pleasures of life: wonderful food, beautiful scenery and, at least here in the Alsace, a not too hurried approach to the question of good living.

Help for Jobs
France is a country with lots of possibilities for trained EFL teachers. If you want to stay in the Strasbourg area after your CELTA, the CIEL would be very happy to look at your CV as they are the biggest recruiter of language teachers in the city.
The school also personally knows the heads of all the language schools in this area of France, and across the border in Germany. If you do your CELTA here you are much more likely to be employed than if you come from outside the area (from the UK, for example).
If you are interested in DELTA, as language policy for Europe is created in Strasbourg, there is no better place to come and do serious language research. The school has good contacts with the language policy unit at the Council of Europe and language research units at the Strasbourg and Karlsruhe universities.
