Course Description
Course Structure and Syllabus
The course is offered as a four-week intensive course, following the syllabus set by Cambridge ESOL. The syllabus is designed to provide teachers with the necessary skills to work effectively in a range of EFL contexts and involves input sessions, observed teaching practice and feedback, supervised lesson preparation, written assignments and tutorials.
Input sessions
These sessions cover many areas, such as the following:
-Grammatical structures and their functions
-Lexis, pronunciation and discourse
-Error analysis and correction
-Current teaching methods
-The learner, the teacher and the teaching/learning context
-Effective lesson planning and preparation
-Classroom management
-Classroom resources and textbooks
-A brief study of a foreign language
Teaching Practice
All trainees will complete six hours of assessed teaching practice.

The cost of accommodation ranges from US$400 and US$800 for the duration of the course.
Airport transfers can also be arranged.
School Details - San Jose
Set up in 1981, the school in San Jose is a private educational institution focussing on the teaching of English as a Foreign Language and Spanish as a Second Language. Each term the centre attracts more than 750 students.
The teacher training takes place at the school's Los Yoses centre, located in the eastern side of San Jose. It is minutes away from the city centre and the University of Costa Rica. The building is a charming old house with a garden and cafeteria for trainees to enjoy.
There is also a library for trainees to make use of, containing teacher training videos and worksheets, a large variety of published teaching materials and plenty more teaching resources. This is situated in the self-access centre where there are also computers available for course participants to use.

Help for Jobs
Regarding helping trainees to find work post-CELTA, the school do include professional development sessions during the course which cover the following areas:
· Descriptions of different job markets and working conditions by various staff members who have experience teaching in different areas of the world
· Description and advice regarding working for IH given by the director of studies
· A list of reputable schools with contact information for the San Jose area
· Input regarding EFL resumes and what information to include
· Input regarding interviews, including what questions to ask and what questions they will be asked
Those trainees who decide to stay in San Jose are always able to find work at one of the numerous schools in the area although the school do not provide job placement as part of the course.
