If, however, your TEFL plans are longer-term, or in countries where the traditionally more internationally recognised (and usually more expensive) 4 week courses are required, such as the UK, Australia, and European countries in general, don’t despair as there are still options for you.
One option is to choose a course in a country where the cost of living is low. Even if the course costs a little more than you would like to pay, you will spend relatively less money while actually there. Flights and accommodation need also to be taken into consideration of course, but some of these countries are Bulgaria, Cambodia, Hungary, Mexico, Poland, Thailand and Vietnam
Another option is to choose a course in a school which offers an Early Bird discount for applying more than 6-8 weeks in advance, for example, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Budapest, Krakow and Prague.
Finally, look for courses in centres that can offer you reimbursement of some of your fees if you take up work with them afterwards, for example Bangkok.
And don't forget to check out our Special Offers! We often have 4 week courses where the fees have been generously discountedfor a limited period.
And finally, spreading the payment: if you are planning to do your course in more than six months’ time it’s sometimes possible to pay off your course fees in instalments, a bit like a credit card without the interest. Please note that your full course fees would need to be paid up six weeks before your course starts. All you need to do is let Cactus TEFL or the school know at the time of your course offer that you’d like to pay for your course in this way.
